(Web Desk) – Facebook admitted on Thursday that they stored hundreds of millions of passwords of both Facebook and Instagram users in plain text files.
Passwords are usually encrypted for the protection of user’s personal data but a series of error made the passwords accessible to an amount of almost 20,000 company employees.
Security flaw has potentially affected people’s private accounts on Facebook and Instagram said Pedro Canahuati, Facebook’s vice president of engineering, security and privacy.
According to Facebook, there is no evidence of internal or external abuse to any user. Facebook claim to have fixed the issue and it will be notifying the affected.
"We estimate that we will notify hundreds of millions of Facebook Lite users, tens of millions of other Facebook users, and tens of thousands of Instagram users," Mr Canahuati wrote.
"There is nothing more important to us than protecting people s information, and we will continue making improvements as part of our ongoing security efforts at Facebook."
This is hottest in the chain of bad security issues for Facebook.
