Data theft: Online taxi service issues advisory following cyber attack

(Dunya News) – Following the data theft of thousands of customers and captains of an online taxi service, a security advisory has been issued by the service asking its users to change their app password.

According to the taxi service, the cyber-attack on the data storage of the service on January 14 this year compromised the security of the data of 14 million users.



The advisory issued by the service on Monday states that the cyber-attack managed to hack their systems resulting in the theft of names, phone numbers, email addresses and trip data of customers as well as of captains – the drivers of the cars part of the taxi service.

The hacking was brought to light following a message left by the hackers. The service has said that they have reached out to cyber security experts as well as law enforcing agencies to address the issue.

The service has said that data of users and captains who got registered after January 14 has not been compromised. However, they have added that the company was making all efforts to secure their data and systems by engaging cyber security experts.
