Three people associated with the website WikiLeaks asked the federal judge not to force the social networking site Twitter to turn over data about who they communicated with on twitter.

Aformer WikiLeaks activist, Birgitta Jonsdottir, as well as two computer programmers, Rop Gonggrijp and Jacob Appelbaum involved in the WikiLeaks case challenged a court order forcing Twitter to tell the government the names of those they talk to privately and who follow their posts. Their Attorneys argued that this violated their freedom of speech and privacy.The documentsfiled by the Defense attorneys say that Twitter communication about WikiLeaks is protected speech. He added that The First Amendment guarantees their right to speak up and freely associate with even unpopular people and cause.”.The WIkiLeak deabate in Amercia isgaining populartity asthe Uunited statesis investigating whether WikiLeaks should be held responsible for leaking classified information, even though WikiLeak is not theoriginal leaker.
