Summary Murray reached third round after a battling 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 7-5 victory over Fernando Verdasco
PARIS (AFP) - Andy Murray laboured into the third round of the Paris Masters on Wednesday with a battling 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 7-5 victory over Fernando Verdasco.
Murray is seeking to displace Novak Djokovic as the world number one and rattled through the opening set against his Spanish opponent.
But Verdasco edged a second set tie-break, with Murray eventually breaking at 6-5 in the decider to set up a last-16 showdown against Lucas Pouille.
Murray, last year s runner-up in the French capital, needs to return to the final to stand a chance of replacing Djokovic at the top.
