Summary The former Manchester United striker got a standing ovation from fans and former manager Ferguson
MANCHESTER (Web Desk) - Former Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie got a standing ovation on his return to Old Trafford after scoring a goal for Turkish club Fenerbahce, reported Dunya News.
Van Persie had joined Manchester United from Arsenal in 2012, even though both clubs are rivals and decision had not pleased Arsenal fans at that time. Persie had celebrated after scoring against Arsenal in 2013-2014 season, even though he had captained the London in the past but he chose not to celebrate after scoring against Manchester United.
Former Manchester United legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson was also in stands as Persie scored and gave the Dutch player a standing ovation. Ferguson was the one who signed Persie in 2012, the season in which Persie won the golden boot and helped United win their 20th EPL title.
It was a perfect night for Manchester United as they got much needed victory, after the draw at Liverpool s Anfield stadium, where Jose Mourinho was blamed for boring football. It was also needed to build up the momentum ahead of big game against in-form Chelsea, who thrashed defending champions Leicester City last week.
Many Manchester United fans expressed their delight on Twitter after Persie scored the goal and did not celebrate.
