The premiere event at today's Herculis 2010 at the Stade Louis II in Monaco, the 200 meters was supposed to showcase a Gay versus Walter Dix showdown until Dix pulled out last minute due to financial reasons. At the Samsung Diamond League Meeting in Monaco today, Gay's 200 meter time of 19.72 served as a season best and new meet record, besting Maurice Green's previous mark of 19.92 from 1999. Yohan Blake of Jamaica finished second in the Monaco 200 meters in a fast 19.78 personal best for the long sprint. Wallace Spearmon (2009 World bronze medalist and 2010 U.S. Champion) of America placed third in a season best time of 19.93. After Walter Dix pulled out of Monaco, Gay was left to face many of his American foes including Spearmon, Olympic medalist Shawn Crawford and Xavier Carter.
