Neither was there an offer from Hockey India nor could PHF accept any funds from India, says Mujahid

LAHORE: (Daily Dunya) – Secretary General Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Rana Mujahid Ali on Saturday has denied the rumors about Hockey India (HI) offering PHF funds. He said that neither was there an offer from HI nor could PHF accept any funds from India, reported Daily Dunya.

However, Rana Mujahid Ali confirmed that PHF was facing serious financial hardships and the training camp for Olympic Qualifiers has also been closed down due to these financial issues.

Talking to Daily Dunya, Rana Mujahid Ali said that the PHF was facing financial issues for the last one year and he has repeatedly requested Pakistan Sports Board and Patron in-chief of PHF Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for funds but to no avail. He said that no funds were being provided for the national game from the national exchequer and the things have gone down to a level where the federation does not even have funds to pay daily stipend to the players during the training camp.

Rana Mujahid said that the team has to go to play the Olympic Qualifying round for which the training camp had been set up in Islamabad but that too has now been closed down. He stressed upon PM to devote some time for Hockey as well otherwise hockey would not be able to survive.

It is pertinent to mention here that there were reports in Pakistani media that Hockey India had offered PHF funds for its training session.
