Australia has beaten Pakistan by 170 runs in the first Test in Melbourne. Pakistan started its innings with 170/3 today, requiring 252 more runs to win to match. The first wicket came on the fourth ball of the day when Umar Akmal edged a Johnson delivery to Brad Haddin. Misbah-ul-Haq, the unbeaten mainstay of the first innings, gave a regulation outside edge to Haddin. Kamran Akmal made 30, Abdul Rauf 5, Saeed Ajmal 10 and Muhammad Yousaf played an inning of 61 runs. All team went to pavilion on 251. Aussie spinner Nathan Hauritz claiming a five-wicket haul in the last innings, Bolinger took 2 wickets whereas Johnson forced three Pakistanis to go to pavilion. The second test of the series will start from 3rd of January in Sydney.
