Summary Simulated Olympic village built at Times Square to mark 100-day countdown to London Olympic Games.

America marked the 100-day countdown to the 2012 London Olympic Games on Wednesday by staging sporting event demonstrations in a simulated Olympic village at the Times Square, New York City.Seventy athletes made demonstrations of various events in the simulated village located in the center of Times Square.Three famous former American athletes, including the winner of ten Olympic medals in track and field Carl Lewis, Olympic diver Greg Louganis and former gymnast Shannon Lee Miller, were also invited by the United States Olympic Committee to take part in activities to interact with visitors.Visitors could wear competition dresses and simulated medals to have pictures taken with their favorite stars. The simulated Olympic village also staged a fund-raising activity sponsored by the U.S. Olympic Committee, which called for public to sew stitches into an Americas national flag, with each stitch worth 12 U.S. dollars. As the committee receives no financial support from the government, it has attached great importance to fund raising activities and has gained a net profit of 12.5 million U.S. dollars since 2009, up 50 percent compared with what they got during the preparation period for the last Olympic Games.
