Summary NA body has asked PCSIR to initiate marketing campaign of products to generate maximum revenue.
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology met here on Thursday with Dr Abdul Qadir Khanzada in the chair.Standing committee discussed shortage of development funds for different projects of research. Committee resented the absence of heads of regional departments of PCSIR in the meeting and said that legislative body wants to facilitate the departments however in their absence it’s not possible to discuss the issue and take decisions.Legislative body also raised the issue of less allocation of budget for the development work of the PCSIR and asked chairman PCSIR to give details of their actual demands and committee would take this issue with finance department.Legislative body stated that PCSIR should initiate marketing campaign of its products through which it can earn billion of rupees.In this regard, PCSIR should write letter to the provincial heads to start marketing campaign of hospital instruments at provincial level and generate funds through these products.Chairman PCSIR Dr Shaukat Pervez apprised the committee that 80% best quality apricot was wasted due to lack of transport and other facilities.He said that several products in the country have been wasted due to poor infrastructure.Committee asked him to give complete report regarding this issue and those steps that have been taken to address this issue.Committee recommended Chairman PCSIR to increase his focus on research and development work in the country which is prime duty of the scientists. Members said that rather to focus on scientific work PCSIR is producing chicks hatchery machines and other machines used to dry fruits which probably not its mandate.Ch Mehmood Bashir Virk said that these people are just paying salaries pension and no research work is under progress in PCSIR therefore this department should be closed. He said that if appropriate funds would not be disbursed that how we expect output from it.Legislative body also discussed the issue of water fuel kit made by engineer Waqar and questioned the Chairman PCSIR that why department did not facilitate it for its sophisticated shape. Committee also directed him to give scientific justifications that either this technology of water fuel kit is viable or not.Chairman Abdul Qadir Khanzada said that in case of credible performance in research and development from the PCSIR committee would support to award special pay scales to the department.Standing committee also constituted a sub-committee comprising six members to check the performance of regional departments of PSCIR.
