Summary Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the Kashmir Chowk underpass, completed in 27 days at a cost of Rs1.45 billion, to ease traffic congestion.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated the Kashmir Chowk underpass, which is expected to help reduce traffic congestion on busy roads.
The prime minister was briefed on the project, which includes 6,340 newly planted trees and two monuments inspired by Kashmir.
Addressing the ceremony, Shehbaz Sharif said the underpass had been completed in just 27 days and congratulated Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. He said he had not seen a project completed at such speed during his political career.
The prime minister said the project was not merely a 500-metre underpass but a four-kilometre road network. It was completed at a cost of Rs1.45 billion, he added.
Shehbaz Sharif said the project demonstrated the government’s preparations for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and other important events. He said improving the city’s beauty and traffic system was the government’s responsibility.
He added that the project had been awarded through e-PADS at a price around 2.5 per cent below the estimated cost. He urged officials to work together with the same commitment to serve the country and ensure that no effort was spared to beautify Islamabad ahead of next year’s SCO summit.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the underpass had been completed in 27 days while maintaining quality. He said the prime minister had fully supported and cooperated on the One Constitution Avenue matter.
Naqvi said the federal cabinet had approved the joint investigation team’s report on One Constitution Avenue and that the Capital Development Authority had recovered property worth billions of rupees.
