QUETTA (Dunya News) – The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has turned to abducting civilians for ransom, according to security sources.
On July 24, BLA militants allegedly kidnapped a courier company’s mini truck along with two individuals from Khad Kocha.
The sources said that on July 26, the group demanded Rs25 million in ransom from the courier company, threatening to kill the abducted individuals if the payment was not made.
The sources further alleged that, besides militant activities, the banned group has also been involved in incidents of bank robberies, vehicle theft, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
Security officials said such incidents indicated the presence of criminal networks and methods used to finance militant activities. They added that these actions cause greater harm to local residents, traders and peace efforts in Balochistan.
The sources claimed that the group carried out such activities to create fear and unrest among the public.
