LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province, banning swimming, bathing and unauthorized boating activities at various water bodies in view of the ongoing monsoon situation.
The Punjab Home Department has issued a formal notification, stating that restrictions have been placed on bathing in rainwater accumulated in open areas, streets, roads and other public places.
The notification also prohibits all types of swimming in dams, rivers, canals, ponds and lakes across the province.
In addition, boating without official permission has been banned in dams, rivers, canals and distributaries under the new restrictions.
According to the Home Department, the ban will remain in force for 60 days and has been imposed under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, to protect human lives amid prevailing weather conditions and potential accidents.
The notification stated that the restrictions were introduced due to increased risks associated with monsoon rains, including rising water levels and hazardous conditions at public water locations.
The Punjab Home Secretary has directed district administrations and law enforcement agencies to ensure strict implementation of the order.
Authorities have also been instructed to launch public awareness campaigns to inform citizens about the enforcement of Section 144 and the dangers associated with entering water bodies during the monsoon season.
