ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has rejected allegations of election rigging made by Rana Sanaullah, saying that claims regarding a particular polling station were unfounded.
PPP Central Information Secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan, responding to remarks by Rana Sanaullah, said the party had been demanding from the beginning that the AJK elections should be conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.
He alleged that the polling staff at the station in question had been staying at the residence of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker.
Chan called for facts to be presented instead of making what he described as baseless accusations. He said that any party confident in its public support should compete through the electoral process.
He also expressed concerns over what it described as federal interference and the alleged use of government resources during the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.
Chan urged the federal government and its institutions to avoid any involvement that could influence the electoral process. He raised objections over announcements of development projects during the election campaign and the alleged use of official resources.
He further claimed that federal ministers were present at government rest houses and official locations on polling day.
He said the PPP has repeatedly written to the Election Commission, calling for measures to ensure that the electoral process remains free from any form of influence and that the use of government resources is stopped.
He reiterated that the PPP’s demand was for transparent, impartial and fair elections, adding that the party would not accept any form of electoral malpractice.
The PPP leader also urged all political parties to remain patient and allow voters to exercise their right to choose their representatives freely, saying the people of Azad Kashmir would make their decision according to their own choice and understanding.
