Summary Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas discussed trade, regional peace, and strategic cooperation.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, at the Prime Minister’s House.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, and other senior officials.
Welcoming Kaja Kallas, the prime minister said Pakistan was keen to further strengthen its multifaceted partnership with the European Union.
He expressed satisfaction over the eighth round of the EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue and reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, climate change, security, migration, sustainable development, and connectivity.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of the GSP Plus scheme in promoting trade between Pakistan and the European Union, saying the arrangement was playing a key role in strengthening bilateral economic ties.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments. The prime minister thanked European leaders for supporting Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace in the Gulf region and said Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had played important roles in those diplomatic initiatives.
He also briefed the EU representative on Pakistan’s position regarding South Asia and Afghanistan. The prime minister conveyed his best wishes to Antonio Costa and Ursula von der Leyen and reiterated invitations for both leaders to visit Pakistan.
Kaja Kallas praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and expressed the European Union’s interest in deepening strategic relations with the country.
