LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government is fully committed to the health, welfare, and safety of every worker.

In her message on the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, she emphasized the physical and mental well-being of workers employed in factories, industries, and offices.

The Chief Minister directed the Labour Department and other relevant institutions to take strict action against those violating workplace safety laws. She said all industrial and business units must ensure the availability of safety equipment and protective measures to safeguard workers from any harm.

Maryam Nawaz stressed that strict implementation of safety standards is essential to protect workers from occupational hazards, adding that only a healthy and safe worker can contribute to building a strong nation.

She urged industrial owners to prioritize worker safety and take effective measures for their welfare, stating that the Punjab government is committed to promoting a workplace safety culture as a top priority.

She further stated that amendments are being introduced in labour laws for employee protection, while around 1.4 million workers are already receiving monthly financial assistance through ration cards. Additionally, 50,000 more factory workers will be issued ration cards during the current fiscal year.

The Chief Minister said the workforce is a valuable asset of the country and no compromise can be made on their health and safety. She reiterated the government’s resolve to ensure a secure working environment where employees feel physically and mentally protected.

She also warned that companies neglecting employee health and safety will face strict penalties, while international-standard safety regulations will be enforced to prevent workplace accidents.
