Summary Kalash Valley bans plastic bags under Section 144 for 60 days to protect environment ahead of Chilam Joshi Festival influx.

CHITRAL (Web Desk) - Authorities have imposed a complete ban on the use of plastic bags in Kalash Valley to protect the environment and ensure cleanliness at key tourist sites.

Officials stated that plastic bags significantly contribute to environmental pollution, block drainage systems, and disrupt the natural ecosystem. Given the ecological sensitivity of the valley, strict preventive measures have been introduced.

The ban comes ahead of the Chilam Joshi Festival, scheduled from May 12 to 17, 2026, when a large influx of tourists is expected. Under Section 144, the use, sale, transportation, and storage of plastic bags have been completely prohibited.

The order has taken immediate effect and will remain in force for 60 days. Authorities warned that violations will result in legal action under Section 188.

Residents and tourists have been urged to cooperate with the authorities to help preserve the valley’s natural beauty and environmental balance.
