Summary Sindh to resume in-person classes April 1 as austerity measures continue, including fuel cuts, salary waivers, and government spending restrictions.

KARACHI (Web Desk) - Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Tuesday that physical classes at all educational institutions across the province will resume from April 1.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Memon said that schools, colleges, and universities will restart in-person learning from Wednesday, replacing online classes. He added that all institutions will remain closed on Saturdays.

Educational institutions, both public and private, had remained closed from March 16 to 31 for curriculum-related activities under the provincial government’s austerity measures and amid the ongoing US–Israel–Iran conflict.

The austerity drive, introduced under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, includes spending cuts and energy-saving measures to manage the global fuel crisis triggered by regional tensions.

Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah confirmed that the new academic year will also begin on April 1, with a two-day weekend observed on Saturday and Sunday. He extended his best wishes to students and staff, urging them to make the most of in-person education.

Earlier, on March 10, the Sindh government implemented measures to reduce fuel consumption by 50% for official vehicles, with 60% of vehicles taken off the roads until April. Provincial ministers also decided to forgo their salaries and allowances for April, May, and June as part of the austerity initiative.

Additionally, a ban remains in place on the purchase of new vehicles and furniture, while refreshments in government offices have also been prohibited during this period.
