ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s weather authorities have issued an alert as rain and snowfall are forecast across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and parts of Punjab from Jan. 31 to Feb. 3, driven by a new western weather system.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to experience cloudy conditions, intermittent rain and snowfall in upper districts during the period.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said rain and snowfall are likely in upper districts including Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Upper and Lower Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Upper and Lower Kohistan, and Kolai-Palas.

In the plains, including Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, North and South Waziristan, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan, authorities expect intermittent rainfall.

The PDMA has directed all district administrations and relevant agencies to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures.

Officials warned that snowfall in upper areas could lead to falling temperatures and hazardous road conditions, with potential closures and slippery roads in tourist destinations such as Naran, Kaghan, Kalam and Chitral.
