United States has confirmed that it has stepped up efforts to lobby Pakistan to abandon gas purchases from Iran.During a daily press briefing, the state department’s spokesperson Nuland Victoria said that US is talking to countries around the world to cut global dependence on Iran, adding that Pakistan was one of the countries that the US was working with.“Well, obviously, we’re talking to countries around the world about the implication of this legislation and our efforts to cut global dependence on Iran. Pakistan is one of the countries that we’re working with.” spokesperson said.Replying to a question, the spokesperson that she didn’t have anything specific that where those conversations with Pakistan were leading. She said that US was talking about all kinds of diversification.According to the British website, the officials from USAID have taken part in a meeting at Pakistan’s petroleum ministry to indicate that LNG could be made available by the US at $4.5 per mmbtu.
