PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to launch a crackdown against vehicles illegally operating on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes in Peshawar.

According to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), a formal operation against rickshaws and taxis using BRT corridors will begin today. Officials said the enforcement drive will continue for one week and will be carried out in phases.

Authorities explained that the main objective of the campaign is to eliminate illegally operating vehicles from BRT routes, which often disrupt the movement of buses and create traffic bottlenecks. The action is also aimed at improving road safety and ensuring uninterrupted service for commuters using the BRT system.

The RTA stated that vehicles found violating transport rules or operating unlawfully on designated BRT lanes will face strict action under the law.

The provincial government has urged transporters and drivers to comply with traffic and transport regulations to avoid penalties. Citizens have also been advised to cooperate with authorities during the operation, which officials believe will help reduce traffic problems and improve overall mobility in the city
