KARACHI (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said on Wednesday that the Sindh government is primarily responsible for the illegal settlements and encroachments around Karachi’s stormwater drains.

In his statement, Siddiqui said that despite prior weather warnings, the failure to take precautionary measures reflects the criminal negligence of the Sindh government and local representatives.

He alleged that the Sindh government has taken over Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and destroyed it as well. After the rains, several areas and major roads including Nagan Chowrangi, Qayyumabad, M-9, Nazimabad, North Karachi, Malir, Gadap, and Shahrah-e-Faisal were submerged.

He further said that the collapse of Bhutto Highway, built with billions in tax money, is the worst example of PPP’s corruption.

Non-local Sindh government officials, municipal representatives, and bureaucrats have caused irreparable damage to Karachi.

The MQM leader added that party lawmakers and workers in the affected areas have been instructed to accelerate relief efforts and make every possible effort to provide assistance to citizens.
