DPM Dar expresses desire to strengthen ties with Bangladesh

DHAKA (Dunya News) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has expressed Pakistan’s strong desire to forge a cooperative and forward-looking relationship with Bangladesh.
Addressing a dinner reception, hosted in his honour by the High Commissioner for Pakistan to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, in Dhaka, Ishaq Dar underscored that the people of Pakistan have fraternal sentiments towards the people of Bangladesh.
He said the relations between the two countries are anchored in centuries-old shared traditions, Islamic heritage, social norms and literary expressions.
He wished the people of Bangladesh a harmonious and prosperous future.
At the reception , the Deputy Prime Minister interacted with a number of personalities from different walks of life including Advisers of the Bangladeshi government, bureaucrats, leadership of political parties, vice chancellors, members of intelligentsia and think tanks, sportsmen, artists, journalists, retired generals and others.
Pakistan’s Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan, also attended the reception.
Earlier in the day, Ishaq Dar held meetings with delegations from various Bangladeshi political parties during his visit to the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka.
A Jamaat-e-Islami delegation led by Deputy Emir Dr Abdullah Muhammad Tahir met Ishaq Dar at the Pakistani High Commission.

The bilateral ties and regional developments were discussed in the meeting.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson, the discussions focused on strengthening Pakistan-Bangladesh ties and reviewing the current political climate in the region.
Ishaq Dar also praised Jamaat-e-Islami's resilience during difficult times.
Later, a delegation of the National Citizen Party (NCP) of Bangladesh, led by Akhtar Hussain, met Ishaq Dar at the High Commission.
FM Ishaq Dar arrives in Dhaka on first official visit
Ishaq Dar emphasised the need for greater interaction between the youth of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
During the discussion, the Deputy Prime Minister appreciated the NCP leadership’s vision for reform and social justice.
The delegation members apprised Ishaq Dar of various aspects of the countrywide political mobilisation that took place last year.
The two sides also discussed possibilities for promoting cultural exchanges between Pakistan and Bangladesh in the coming days.
The visit marks a significant diplomatic development as Ishaq Dar is the first Pakistani foreign minister to visit Bangladesh in 13 years.
