ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has extended a formal invitation to the opposition parties for dialogue with the government, emphasising that negotiations are the only viable path forward in parliamentary politics.
The Speaker made the offer during remarks responding to opposition member Asad Qaiser’s concerns regarding parliamentary privileges. The speaker noted that political traditions, the Constitution, the law, and assembly rules are transparent, and respecting these frameworks ensures democratic stability.
Referencing international parliamentary norms, Sadiq pointed out that even in India, after opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s arrest, no production orders were issued – highlighting the importance of preserving democratic principles.
"I am ready to serve as a bridge between the government and opposition for constructive dialogue,” said the Speaker.
“No forum is greater than the National Assembly and Senate for a grand national jirga. All political forces must contribute to strengthening the parliament."
He stressed that while dissent is a cornerstone of democracy, it must transform into constructive dialogue to serve national interests.
This development comes amid increasing calls from various quarters, including government representatives, urging dialogue with PTI and other opposition parties on key issues such as the 26th Constitutional Amendment.
