Fazl condemns 'anti-human rights legislation' following 26th amendment

Highlights that post-amendments laws enable authorities to detain individuals for up to 90 days
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – JUI-F chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman has expressed concern over laws enacted after 26th amendment, claiming they undermined the essence of the constitution and human rights.
Speaking to media on Sunday, he mentioned that his visit was to offer condolence on the passing of Illyas Bilour.
He criticised the government for prioritising politics over citizen’s safety amid ongoing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Their focus is on politics rather than on peace," the Maulana said.
He criticised revoking of Article 8 under the 26th amendment "which has opened the door for laws that infringe upon basic rights" guaranteed under the 1973 constitution.
Revocation of the article created a climate of suspect where people considered themselves alienated in their own country, the JUI-F chief stated.
