End of an era! CJP Isa set to retire today

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Another era ended in the judicial history of Pakistan as Chief Justice (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa is retiring today.

Today, CJP will not hear any cases rather he will only perform his chamber work, he will also inaugurate the Fundamental Rights Monument under construction in the Supreme Court.

Justice Yahya Afridi will host a lunch in the honour of outgoing CJP Isa.

A full court reference will also be held in the room number one of the Supreme Court (SC) in which CJP Isa, nominated CJP Afridi and other judges of the Supreme Court will participate.

SC lawyers, judicial staff and journalists will participate in the full court reference, outgoing chief justice will address the full court reference.

Nominated CJP Justice Afridi will also address the full-court.

While the senior judge, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will not attend the full court reference and the lunch as he has gone to perform Umrah.

The nominated CJP will take oath tomorrow, the oath-taking ceremony will be held in the president house. President Asif Ali Zardari will take oath from the nominated Justice Afridi as 30th Chief Justice of Pakistan.

A FAREWELL DINNER

Earlier on Thursday, a farewell dinner was held in honour of Chief Justice Isa.

The dinner was organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Pakistan Bar Council.

Several judges of the top court, including nominated Chief Justice, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justices Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Aminuddin, Jamal Mandokhel, Hasan Rizvi, and Irfan Sadat were among those who attended the function.

Adhoc Supreme Court Judges, including Justices Sardar Tariq, Mazhar Alam Mian Khel, Musarrat Hilali, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Aqeel Abbasi were also present at the dinner.

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Mian Gul Hassan, and Justice Arbab Tahir also participated in the farewell ceremony.
