Judges appointment process will be done through a Constitutional Commission, says proposal
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that despite having a two-thirds majority the government desired to complete the consultation with all the political parties to pass the constitutional amendment.
A meeting of the parliamentary committee was held regarding the amendment on Friday. Bilawal Bhutto, Molana Fazlur Rehman and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan attended the sitting.
While talking to the media after the meeting, Bilawal said that they presented a draft of the bill for amendment to the committee.
Bilawal informed that the government presented its proposals. He further said that the PPP has already shared its draft with all political parties, except the government. He highlighted the need for consensus, with opposition leaders, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, expressing willingness to collaborate on an agreeable draft.

Minister for Law, Azam Nazir Tarar, noted that multiple proposals emerged during the meeting and stressed the importance of amending the constitution through consensus. However, he questioned how long the government should wait for an agreement.
The PPP's draft proposed the establishment of a Constitutional Court under Article 175A, with additional amendments to other articles, including a new judges appointment process through a Constitutional Commission.
A package of amendments is suggested, highlighting the need for structural changes at both federal and provincial levels. The committee is set to reconvene tomorrow for further discussions.
