'Last' chance for cross-examination of NAB officer in 190 million pounds case
Pakistan
The defense has failed to conduct the cross-examination of the last witness even in the 24th hearing
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - An Accountability Court has granted a final opportunity for the lawyers of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi to cross-examine the NAB investigative officer in the 190 million pounds case.
The hearing took place at Adiala Jail, presided over by Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana.
PTI Founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were presented in the court room. Their legal team included Intezar Panjotha, Naeem Panjotha, and Faisal Fareed Chaudhry, while Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi represented the prosecution.
The prosecutor informed the court that four power of attorney on behalf of Bushra Bibi were submitted: Salman Safdar, Khalid Yousaf, Mishal Yousaf, and Usman Gul. He added that only Usman Gul was absent due to illness while there was no information regarding other three lawyers.
NAB lawyers argued that if Usman Gul was ill, the remaining lawyers should be summoned to complete the cross-examination of the last witness.
They noted that the Islamabad High Court had instructed to proceed with the case, alleging that the defense lawyers were intentionally delaying the hearing.
The court directed the defense lawyers that this is the final opportunity, and they must complete the cross-examination of the NAB officer in the next hearing.
Due to the absence of Bushra Bibi's lawyers, the court has postponed the hearing until Friday. The judge reiterateded that cross-examination must occur on the next date.
It is noteworthy that the defense has failed to conduct the cross-examination of the last witness even in the 24th hearing.
