ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar on Friday announced a grant of Rs5 million for each affected family of the missing persons.
He said a number of complex factors were behind the issue of missing persons and the state had made a historic decision to provide the much-needed relief to the victim’s families.
The policy would be applied to the family of the person who has been missing for more than five years.
The law minister stated that the package was intended to support and not compensation. "If the missing person returns, there will be no claim to the amount," he added.
The minister reiterated that the cabinet had approved a Rs5 million support package.
He said the federal government had approved the grant as this step might alleviate the sufferings of the bereaved families.
He said the state is committed to solving the problem of missing persons using all available resources and many such cases have been resolved through Enforced Disappearance Inquiry Commission.
In order to carry forward this determination, the government has started the 'National Consensus & Legal Resolution (NCLR) of Missing Persons'.
The government is further enhancing its legal domains to solve the issue of missing persons,” he said.
It merits mention that the families of missing persons had been protesting in Gwadar for several days. However, on Thursday, the talks between Baloch Yakjehti Committee’s head Dr Mahrang Baloch and Gwadar DC were successful and the protest came to an end.
