Adopting environmental friendly alternatives will mitigate the climate change induced by plastic use
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reiterated that plastic pollution was the environmental challenge and it’s a responsibility to take constructive measures for its eradication.
Sharing her message on International Plastic Bag Free Day, she advocated to pledge for ban on plastic bags usage across the province.
She addressed the public to cooperate with government for implementation of law, ban on production, sale and usage of plastic bag across the province.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted the Punjab government’s vision for plastic free Punjab, making all cities, parks and waterways plastic pollution free.

She stressed that the motive behind ‘Say no-to plastic’ campaign was to end plastic usage and boost sustainable alternatives.
CM insisted that plastic usage eradication will ensure healthy and clean environment for future generations.
Punjab CM advised the public to use bio-degradable bags instead of plastic bags. She warned that plastic side-effects on health and environment couldn’t be ignored.

Senate standing committee for climate change chairperson Sherry Rehman asserted to consider the environmental impacts of plastic bags usage.
She highlighted that Pakistan was facing plastic pollution crisis, using 55 billion plastic bags annually and 15 pc increase in plastic bag usage annually was expected.
Senator stated that plastic bags decomposition takes hundreds of years, impacting human, water and wild lives.
She described that negligence in implementation of laws, public lack of awareness about plastic usage and unavailability of alternatives were the main reasons behind excessive plastic usage.
