SWAT (Dunya News) - A man was burnt to death by an angry mob for allegedly desecrating the Holy Quran in Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday night, Dunya News reported.
Police said they detained a man after locals complained that he had allegedly burnt some pages of the Holy Quran. But a mob “attacked the police station and took the suspect away,” they said.
The mob torched the police station and a mobile vehicle and set the suspect ablaze, said police.
Heavy police deployment was made in the area and efforts were being to bring the situation under control.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has taken notice of the desecration incident and sought a report from the IGP. The chief minister directed the authorities to take steps to control the situation and urged people to remain calm and peaceful.
