President rejects any form of Taiwan independence
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasised that Pakistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle, always choosing to stand on the right side of history.
In an interview with a Chinese media outlet on Wednesday, marking the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, the president remarked that “Pakistani people love China as there is no conditionality between us”.
This marked President Zardari's first interaction with any foreign media after being re-elected for the second time in March.
Having visited China nine times during his first term, President Zardari reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to upholding the one-China principle, rejecting any form of “Taiwan independence”.
According to the president, "Taiwan is part of China. There’s no other way," adding that Pakistan would always stand with China and safeguard its core interests.
Transitioning to the development of Gwadar Port, Zardari noted significant progress since the launch of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 11 years ago. He emphasised that the port remains open to investors from around the globe.
Zardari highlighted Pakistan's initiative to encourage the inclusion of Chinese language in school curricula, aiming to strengthen ties between the two nations.
Emphasising the importance of people-to-people exchanges, Zardari called for policies facilitating movement between the two countries.
Appreciating China's achievements, Zardari attributed its success to the continuation of policies, expressing Pakistan's desire for increased involvement in China's development process.
