PTI held its first intra-party elections on December 2,which elected the Barrister Gohar Ali Khan as the party chairman.

However, PTI founding leader Akbar S Babar filed a petition against the intra-party elections, leading to a subsequent declaration by the Election Commissionof Pakistan (ECP) that declared the elections unconstituional as well as null and void.

The Peshawar High Court, in a series of rulings, suspended and reinstated the ECP’s decision regarding the withdrawal of PTI's electoral symbol, the 'bat.' The Supreme Court barred the party with its electoral symbol ‘bat’ by upholding the ECP decision.
