ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The inquiry committee of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will be held today (Tuesday) to investigate the allegations of former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha.

ECP Senior Member Nisar Durrani will preside over the meeting.

According to the sources, the inquiry committee has summoned all the Returning Officers (ROs) of Rawalpindi division today at 10:00am. They said that the inquiry committee will record the statements of the ROs.

Sources said that the inquiry committee will record the statements of all concerned DROs and ROs today.

It is pertinent to mention here that Former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha resigned from his office after "accepting responsibility" for manipulation of poll results.

Speaking to reporters at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Chattha said the candidates who were “losing” the elections “were made to win”.

Chattha said “stabbing the country in its back does not let” him sleep. “I should be punished for the injustice I have done and others who were involved in this injustice should also be punished,” he said.

Chattha expressed remorse for forcing his subordinates to engage in wrongdoing and admitted that winning candidates were made to lose on 13 seats in the Rawalpindi division.

The commissioner accused Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja of being complicit in the rigging and asserted that he, along with the CEC and Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, deserved punishment, even the death penalty, for their injustice.
