Mega project aimed at eradicating fatal diseases in the offing
PESHAWAR (APP) – Caretaker Federal Minister for Health Dr Nadeem Jan announced on Monday the launch of a mega project worth Rs35.6 billion aimed at eradicating fatal diseases, including diabetes, HIV/AIDS, and hepatitis, throughout the country.
During a function held to inaugurate a state-of-the-art labour room at a basic health unit (BHU) in Kotkay in Charsadda district, the minister stated that a Rs6 billion programme had been devised for diabetes control, alongside initiatives to combat HIV/AIDS.
Jan emphasised that the government's foremost priority was to provide best healthcare facilities directly to patients' doorsteps. He highlighted efforts to bolster basic health units with additional medical staff, equipment and medication.
The minister also commended the World Health Organization's support in rehabilitating flood-affected BHUs, ensuring quality treatment and medicine accessibility for local residents.
He stressed the crucial role of Health Department officials in optimising BHU services for community welfare, emphasising the timely provision of staff and superior healthcare facilities.
"If BHUs perform effectively, the burden on larger hospitals will decrease, ultimately saving lives," Dr Jan noted.
Later, the minister visited a basic health unit (BHU) in Akhun Dheri, Charsadda, and the TB Hospital in Baghdada, Mardan, where he inaugurated a training centre and received briefings on these projects.
