Says case politically-motivated

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Former federal minister Fawad Ahmad Chaudhry on Tuesday moved an application in a district and sessions court for his acquittal in a case of inciting government employees to commit treason.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Islamabad Tahir Abbas Sipra conducted hearing of the case against Fawad Chaudhry for provoking the public to sedition.

Fawad Chaudhry appeared in the court with his counsel and filed an application for his acquittal in the case taking the stance that the case against him was politically-motivated. He further said petitioner had no proof against him and the sections of the law applied against him did not hold grounds.

Chaudhry said the basic evidence of the charges framed in challan could not be produced in the court. The former minister said the petitioner was an employee of the Election

Commission of Pakistan. The statement of the official was not attached with the case, he said.

Chaudhry said the record presented against him failed to substantiate that he promoted hatred or incited government employees through his speech. He pleaded the court to acquit him in the case. Chaudhry said he could not be indicted in the case.

The court adjourned hearing on the application filed by Chaudhry till October 23 while issuing notices to the parties.
