PTI chief shifted to Attock instead of Adiala Jail

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - In a major development, the former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief who was arrested earlier Saturday was shifted to Attock Jail following the conclusion of the Toshakhana case.

The police, after detaining the former Prime Minister from his Lahore's residence in Zaman Park, brought him to Islamabad via the motorway.

The transfer to Attock Jail was accompanied by a heavy contingent of Punjab police and Islamabad police. Additional forces were also deployed outside the jail.

Specially Prepared Lock-up for PTI chief

Sources say that a specially prepared lock-up has been arranged in Attock Jail for the PTI chairman. The lock-up is furnished with a window, a chair, a water cooler, and a mattress. However, there will be no TV or internet facility in that area. A separate washroom has been allocated for the former Prime Minister as per the jail manual.

The jail administration received the court warrant for his custody, but the warrant does not contain any instructions regarding providing specific facilities.

Arrest of Former Prime Minister

Earlier, the Chairman of PTI was arrested from his house after the conclusion of the Toshakhana case.

The security staff present there was notified of the arrest warrant, following which a police vehicle entered the premises, while the rest of the personnel remained outside. A brief exchange of words took place between the police officers and the PTI Chairman, after which he did not resist arrest. He was placed inside a car and departed for Islamabad via the motorway.

Confirmation of Arrest by Shah Mahmood Qureshi

Vice Chairman of PTI, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, confirmed the arrest of the party chief. Qureshi stated that the decision does not align with the principles of justice, as the PTI Chairman repeatedly expressed his lack of confidence in the judge. He further stated that they will follow legal action and approach the higher judiciary to challenge the decision.

Tight Security Measures Surrounding Zaman Park

During the arrest of the former Prime Minister, a heavy contingent of police was deployed at Dharampura, Jail Road, and Mall Road. The roads leading to Zaman Park were closed, prohibiting anyone from entering the area. Barricades were set up on the roads surrounding the residence of the PTI Chairman.

Court Decision and Sentencing PTI Chairman

Additional District & Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar, hearing the Toshakhana case, declared that the allegations against the Chairman of PTI have been proven. The charge of disclosing false assets was also proven against him. The court rejected a request for a hearing and sentenced the Chairman of PTI to three years of imprisonment. Additionally, failure to pay a fine of one lakh rupees, a six month imprisonment will have to be faced.
