Rizwana torture case: Accused Soumya granted interim bail

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - An additional district and sessions judge on Tuesday accepted the pre-arrest bail application of Soumya Asim, the accused in the rape case of underage maid Rizwana.

The hearing on the interim bail application of Soumya Asim was held in a court in Islamabad where the Additional District and Sessions Judge Dr Abida Sajid granted the interim bail to the accused till Aug 7 against a bond of Rs0.1 million.

The court ordered Soumya to present herself for investigation and appear in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Farrukh Farid on the next hearing.

In the application filed in court, Soumya Asim took a position that the story told in the FIR was not true but fabricated. She claimed that Rizwana was hired as a maid in her house with the consent of her parents and she never tortured her.

The accused further said she had always treated Rizwana gently like her three children, and insisted that the facts were being distorted and used against her. She added she was also a victim of this negative campaign which was being waged against her husband – a civil judge of good repute.

She further said that due to this mental trauma she was facing serious difficulties. She said that being an educated and respectable woman, she was being implicated in the case on the basis of malice.
