National Assembly passes Official Secrets amendment bill
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The National Assembly approved the Official Secrets Amendment Bill 2023, following the rationale provided in the Statement of Objects and Reasons for amending the Official Secrets Act 1923.
The purpose of this bill is to enhance the Act's effectiveness in light of the changing social context, thus safeguarding official documents and ensuring safety and security.
Additionally, the Toshakhana Management and Regulation Bill 2023, passed on the same day, outlines that all current and future gifts received in the state repository will be auctioned openly. The proceeds from these auctions will be segregated into a dedicated account and utilised to support female primary education in the most underserved regions of the country. These bills were introduced by Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Javed Abbassi.
Furthermore, the House passed several other bills today, which included the Pakistan Airports Authority Bill 2023, The Promotion and Protection of Gandhara Culture Authority Bill 2023, The Margalla International University Bill 2023, and The Thar International Institute Bill 2023.
In addition to the legislative matters, the National Assembly also passed a resolution on Tuesday, urging the government to promptly ensure that employees in both public and private institutions receive the minimum wage. The resolution was put forward by Aliya Kamran.
The House passed another resolution recommending that the government rename Gwadar International Airport to Feroz Khan Noon Airport, as a tribute to the former prime minister. This resolution was presented by Rana Qasim Noon.
The session was adjourned, and the House is scheduled to reconvene at 11am tomorrow (Wednesday).
