LHC halts flattening of factories producing fuel from tyres until Sept 27
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday issued a written order on a petition against the notification restraining factories making fuel from old tyres.
Justice Anwar Hussain of LHC issued a written order on the request of the All Pakistan Alternative Energy Recycling Association.
The chairman and president of the association (abbreviated as APAERA) had challenged the notification of the environment department in the Lahore High Court.
The LHC said in the decision that the environment department should not take action of demolising the factories that make fuel from old tyres. It barred the department from demolishing the factories till Sept 27. The tyre recycling factories will remain closed until the next hearing as the court issued notices to the parties to file their reply.
In the order, it was further said that a notice was issued to the Advocate General Punjab for judicial assistance on important points raised in the application. The petitioner contended that the tyre recycling plants were set up as per international standards and the Environment Tribunal ordered to issue NOCs to tyre recycling plants meeting the standards.
Resultantly, the Environment DG directed the tribunal to issue NOCs to the plants meeting the standards.
The petitioner’s lawyers said tyres were removed from about 40 million vehicles of various types in Punjab annually and the closure of the factories would stop the production of cheap alternative industrial fuel from old tyres.
They said that the LHC should declare the notification of demolition of the tyre recycling factories invalid and issue an order to stop the government from taking action.
