Temperatures likely to move upward gradually in parts of country from June 20 to 24
LAHORE (Web Desk) - The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday forecast heatwave due to a gradual increase in day temperatures in most parts of the country.
Issuing a weather advisory, the PMD said the day temperatures were likely to move upward gradually in most parts of the country from June 20 to 24 due to high pressure in the upper atmosphere.
The day temperatures were likely to stay between four to six degrees Celsius above normal in upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, it said.
The mercury would be two to four degrees Celsius above normal in Sindh, South Punjab and parts of Balochistan, the advisory added.
Occasional dust and thunderstorm with rain at isolated places was likely in the plains of the country and hilly areas during the period, the advisory further informed.
Meanwhile, the demand for power and water could increase in the coming days due to the increase in temperatures, it warned, adding that India had been witnessing severe heatwaves in the last few days with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius at many places.
As many as 54 people died in northern Uttar Pradesh and 44 people in eastern Bihar in the last few days.
The PMD has advised the farmers to manage the watering of crops accordingly. The general public should avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and use water sensibly, it suggested.
