Accused will have right to fair trial in military court: Law minister

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar on Wednesday said that the cases in military courts will be conducted according to the international covenants.

Speaking to media, Mr Tarar said the accused will have the right to a fair trial in a military court. "They shall have the right to hire lawyer of their choice and to present evidence in their own defence," he added.

He further said that the accused will also have the right to appeal in the higher courts against the decisions of the military courts.

"The concerned body will proceed as to how they are satisfied with the [available] material," he maintained.

Mr Tarar made it clear that so far, no case involving a woman had been sent to a military court.
