PDM enjoys support of 17 members, PTI has 26 seats

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Following the disqualification of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister (PM) Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Wednesday joined heads to deliberate prospects of a PM belonging to the PDM.

Advisor to PM Shehbaz Sharif on Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Qamar Zaman Kaira presided over a meeting, attended by PPP leaders including PPP AJK president Chaudhry Yasin, AJK Assembly opposition leader Chaudhry Latif Akbar, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, Sardar Haji Yaqub, Mian Waheed, Chaudhry Aamir Yasin, and Nabila Ayub, to discuss the situation.

The meeting underscored the exchange of thoughts on contacting disgruntled PTI leaders to secure a majority for PDM's candidate in the assembly.

The assembly’s structure suggests that, in the 45-general member assembly, the PDM has 17 seats including the PPP’s 11 and that of the PML-N’s six, while Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party (JKPP) and All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (MC) enjoy one seat each. The support of 27 members is required to get the PM elected.

The PTI has 26 members in the assembly and had earlier formed the government with the support of the MC.
