Parliament cannot dictate SC, says Parvez Elahi
Pakistan
According to Mr Elahi, Nawaz Sharif was a fugitive criminal of the constitution
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Former Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi made some strong statements regarding Nawaz Sharif during a meeting with former National and Provincial Assembly members on Thursday.
According to Mr Elahi, Nawaz Sharif was a fugitive criminal of the constitution and the law and would go straight to jail whenever he returned.
The meeting, which was attended by former MNA Chaudhry Aamir Sultan Cheema, former provincial minister Colonel (retd) Hashim Dogar, Safdar Bhosal Advocate, Rai Mumtaz Babar and Nader Dogal Advocate, discussed the country's political situation and other issues of the party.
Mr Elahi claimed that the government bill was nothing but an attempt to give another NRO to Nawaz Sharif, and that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) wanted to escape from the election in Punjab.
Mr Elahi acknowledged that Parliament was supreme, but he said that the government should know that the Supreme Court was also Supreme and that Parliament cannot dictate the Supreme Court.
He further claimed that the PDM, including Shehbaz Sharif, wanted to prevent the Supreme Court from upholding the constitution, and that the PDM wanted to entangle the Supreme Court in the discussion of the benches to escape from the election in Punjab.
According to Mr Elahi, constitutionally, only the Supreme Court holds power to interpret the constitution, and the PDM government was playing with national security by stopping the election.
He said that the world had not yet found any other solution to end the political crisis except the election and that there was no constitutional status of malicious legislation even if it was done by the Parliament.
