Administration cautioned after UN aircraft comes close to drone
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The management of the Islamabad airport asked police for not allowing the drone operations near the airport. The instructions were issued after one of the drones came close to the UN aircraft on Jan 16.
The drone, say reports, was at 3,400 feet and eight nautical miles while the UN aircraft was flying at 3,700 feet. Therefore, the officials were alerted of a probable collision. The manager of the airport notified the authorities and said the UN aircraft B-190 with flight number UN-355H was about to collide with the unmanned drone at 2:20pm.
The area is said to be a posh one in Rawalpindi, according to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Airport Chief Operating Officer Syed Aftab Ali Shah Gillani has decided to take the assistance of Rawalpindi regional police officer (RPO) and commissioner after two consecutive complaints of a possible flight collision were received.
The Rawalpindi police chief has been requested to increase patrolling and combing operations to detect violators in the funnel areas, which extend beyond each end of the runway used by aircraft to land and take off.
