Authorities fail to restore electricity
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Power supply across the country could not be restored hours after country’s national grid suffered a major breakdown, leaving millions of people without electricity for the second time in three months.
The major power breakdown exposed the performance of the National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC), while the regulator is unable to give a timeframe for power restoration.

The restoration of electricity will likely take another seven to eight hours. The protection system did not work at the time of the breakdown. The outage was caused by a large voltage surge in the south of the grid, which affected the entire network.

According to sources, the NTDC has not yet given the reasons for the breakdown nine hours after Lesco region was shutdown, whereas two attempts to operate Tarbela and Mangla power plants have failed.

Earlier today, most cities across the country were left with no electricity due to fault in high-tension transmission lines. The electricity outage hit cities in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and the federal capital after transmission lines from the Guddu power station developed technical fault.
