Governor asked CM Elahi to take vote of confidence as per constitution: Shaiq Usmani

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Retired Justice Shaiq Usmani said on Wednesday the Punjab governor could ask Chief Minister Parvez Elahi to take a vote of confidence according to the Constitution.

In an interview with Dunya News, Justice Usmani claimed that Mr Elahi would have been in the PA if he had got enough votes, adding that things might have changed if he had claimed a majority. The chief minister, he said, would no longer be able to hold the position if he failed to win the majority.

"The federal government is currently working on issuing a formal notification. He [Elahi] will cease to be the Punjab chief minister once the official notification is released. After this process, the governor will have the option to call a meeting of the PA  anytime, and during that meeting, the chief minister will be chosen by the party that claims to have most votes," said Justice Usmani.
