KARACHI (Dunya News) – Some unidentified persons forced to shut business centres and shops in various parts of Karachi soon after police baton charged Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) workers in front of the Sindh CM House on Wednesday, Dunya News reported.
The areas where business centres and shops were forcibly closed included Jacob Lines, Burns Road, Lines Area and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The unidentified persons also burnt tyres to block roads in Korangi No 2 area of Karachi.
Earlier, one person was killed and several other were wounded when police baton-charged and tear-gassed peaceful Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) workers who were holding protest in front of the Sindh CM House against the recently passed local government law by the provincial government.
MQM-P convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui while speaking at MQM-P Bahadurabad office confirmed the death of a party worker identified as Aslam. He said that police resorted to tear gas shelling and baton-charge on the instruction of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah during which several MQM-P workers including women and children sustained injuries.
He said that we will register a first information report (FIR) against Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah for the murder of our worker which will also include the section of terrorism.
Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid have taken notice of the incident. He also urged Prime Minister to visit Karachi as soon as possible. He also demanded of the PM Imran to suspend IG and DIG.
On the other hand various political leaders have condemned police violence to disperse MQM-P protesters staging a sit-in outside the Sindh Chief Minister House against the recently passed local government law.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain Wednesday strongly condemned the hooliganism of Sindh police against the peaceful Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) workers who were holding protest against the recently passed local government law by the provincial government.
Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman telephoned MQM-P leader Amir Khan and strongly condemned police action against MQM-P. He also said that that a delegation of JUI-F will visit the MQM-P office today (Thursday) to condole the death of a worker.
