IHC disposes of plea against use of EVMs in next elections
The verdict stated that with regard to voting through EVMs, legislation is required from parliament
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday disposed of the petition against holding next general elections through electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Dismissing the petition against the electronic voting machine, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court, Justice Athar Minallah ruled that the use of EVMs in elections is not a space or alien work, the system exists in many countries around the world.
The verdict further stated that with regard to voting through electronic voting machine, legislation is required from the parliament initially and the decision of the parliament will be in the interest of the people.
The decision also stated that it was the constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is to hold free and fair elections.
