PM assures to extend all possible assistance to farmers

BAHAWALPUR (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said that it is his vision to support farmers, enabling them to increase their income, which is critical to decrease poverty, bring down prices of essential items, and reduce inflation in the country.

Addressing Farmers  Convention in Bahawalpur on Wednesday, he assured the farmers that he was not doing them any favors and it was his duty to help his farmers to bring prosperity in the country. The federal and Punjab governments will always stand by the farmers.

He paid tribute to the Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar for giving him health cards in the province. “I had planned of giving health cards to the poor people before entering politics, he said and added Shaukat Khanum Hospital provides free treatment to 70 per cent of poor patients. “Today, every family in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has a health card, adding that universal health insurance is not even in rich countries and all citizens of Punjab will get health cards by the end of this year.

He said the government is providing direct subsidy to farmers through Kissan Card to procure agri inputs. He said we have to help farmers by providing them fiscal assistance and technological support. He said the government believes in encouraging research in the agriculture sector to increase per acre yield.

The prime minister also appreciated performance of the Islamia University Bahawalpur in promoting the culture of research, especially in the field of agriculture.

Imran Khan went on to say that current account is our challenge at present, adding that the dollars go abroad when we import a machine and with the shortage of dollars, we have to go to the IMF again. “The things that are imported from abroad can be made and grow in Pakistan but we have to increase research in the country,” he added.
